Plastic Surgery FAQ

Click on the following questions to display the answers:

will it hurt?

During your procedure, anesthesia ensures that you're comfortable and without pain. After surgery, we can control pain through medication, which will usually subside within a few days.

will there be any scars?

We make every effort to keep scars as small as possible and try and hide them in natural lines and creases. For the majority of procedures, your scars will fade over time and become barely visible.

does it take long?

Not as long as you might think. Most procedures are done on an outpatient basis, requiring no overnight stay, and usually take only a few hours. You'll need to come in one hour before your procedure, meet again with your surgeon, and then stay under our care for a few hours after surgery. By then you'll be back on your feet and a friend or relative will need to escort you home to recover comfortably in your own bed.

how soon can I return to work?

It depends on the surgery you select. On average, most patients are back to work within seven to 10 days.

will others know I've had plastic surgery?

Probably not. Good plastic surgery enhances your looks naturally and often goes unnoticed. So, they won't know unless you choose to tell them.

is it expensive?

Not really. Prices have come down over the years, while quality has gone up. Since we perform almost every procedure on an outpatient basis, we rarely require a hospital stay. Eliminating hospital charges has reduced costs dramatically. Prices have become so reasonable that just about anyone can afford plastic surgery. In fact, almost half the people who have plastic surgery make less than $35,000 a year. It is an investment in oneself.

will my insurance cover it?

Since plastic surgery is elective (a personal choice), most insurance plans do not cover it. However, there are exceptions. If your procedure is considered medically necessary, it could be covered. Our office will be happy to contact your insurance provider to find out what, if any, portion of your expenses may be covered.

can I finance my surgery?

For more information about financing your surgery, please call 505-262-7777. Our staff can give you all the details and refer you to a bank or finance company.

how long do results last?

The results from the surgery can last five to ten years. Surgery that reshapes, or corrects an imbalance, such as nose refinement, chin augmentation, liposuction, and breast surgery offer permanent benefits that can last a lifetime.

who can use abq health partners services?

These services are available to everyone, not just ABQ Health Partners Health Plan members. We accept most insurance and can help with financing.
